About Irob Songs
& Music Art Development
Abraha Tesfay - June 9, 2014

It is really encouraging to see that, if you run Google search or YouTube search, it will give you multiple Irob song options these days. Tremendous efforts & development has taken place in the last 10 years in this regard. Artistic and creative young irobs are emerging from time to time with pleasing poetic & rhythmic native & modern Irob songs.

These songs not only entertained & relaxed the irobs who are scattered all over the globe who are homesick, but also filled us with the positive emotions about ourselves and take us far back to home. They help us to feel at home, share the problems our people are going through, and make us to talk about Irob problems.

Irob artists can take the advantage of multi-cultural & multi-language relationship of Irob language and culture with Tigrigna, Afar, Amharic, and the neighboring Saho. Our artists/musicians can mix and develop collection clips containing Irob, Afar,Tigrigna, Amharic and expand their talent and market.

Some Irob artist have already identified this opportunity and come up with multi-cultural clips such as Irob & Afar as well as Irob & Tigrigna in the last two or three years. Personally, I would recommend that this opportunity should be exploited well; not only to generate the market, but also to promote awareness about the Irob people & the culture. Any art work such as musical activities play great role in creating social awareness and unity. It develops nationalism and focus on common agendas.

Thus, I would like to remind my Irob artists to include messages about Irob development (ልምዓት), self-reliance, about avoiding being victim of human trafficking, about the importance of working together to confront our problems together, etc.

As my last point, we should encourage our new artists who are promoting our culture starting from a scratch base. We have to buy their albums so they can get some financial support to survive. We have to also morally support them for the great jobs they do. We all know that musical products can be easily obtained by consumers without paying for them due to technological boost. But, this can discourage our new artists who don't have much other sources to depend on other than the small pay back for their work by us, Irobs.
